HQU Opens Chinese Cultural Tour Winter Camp 2024

Release time:2024-01-08      Author:

On January 7, 2024, HQU's Chinese Cultural Tour Winter Camp opened at Wang Yuanxing International Conference Center. The goal is for young students to better study Xi Jinping Thought on Culture, understand the significance of adapting the basic tenets of Marxism to China’s specific realities and its fine traditional culture, and practice core socialist values. This is also HQU’s response to the call of the Ministry of Education to educate young generations in the new era.

The camp is attended by 200 teachers and students from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 13 other countries i.e., Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, South Africa, North Korea, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Thailand, Cambodia, Ecuador, and Kenya. They will embark on investigative tours to Northeast China’s Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning provinces, North China’s Beijing and Tianjing municipals and Hebei and Henan provinces, East China’s Shandong province, and Northwest China’s Shanxi province. The students are expected to learn about the evolution of Chinese culture, experience the allure of Chinese traditions, and therefore better understand the historical and cultural foundations underlying the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Wang Xiuyong, Vice President of HQU, attended the ceremony and presented the flag to the representative of the camp. More than 200 people gathered at the event, including the directors of relevant departments, camp instructors, and domestic and international students.

Song Yiguo from College of Computer Science and Technology shared his perspective on behalf of the teachers. He hoped that students would embrace cultural differences and foster friendships; and that these young men could tell their own China stories after they get a glimpse of the cultural roots of the vast land while detecting the trend of the era.

Wang Yiying, a senior student from Hong Kong studying at School of Journalism & Communication, saw the 7-day tour as an opportunity for personal growth. In her remarks as the representative of campers, she expressed her commitment to immersing herself in the journey.

Before they set off, the Student Affairs Department also held a training for teachers and service workers, and a safety education lecture for students. The session briefed students on safety precautions covering transportation, food, accommodation and property, hoping they will take good care of themselves while enjoying the journey.
