It was a glittering array of exceptional students and remarkable teachers of Huaqiao University (HQU).

On the evening of Nov.25, the 2023 Huaqiao University Outstanding Role Models Awards Ceremony was held at the Badminton and Tennis Hall, HQU Xiamen Campus. Representatives of the winners of 2022-23 China National Scholarship, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competitions, Art and Cultural Competitions, representatives of the outstanding students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas, along with pioneering role models were presented with awards.

On this warm fall night, in front of their friends, family, teacher and student representatives, over 50 outstanding student representatives were honored for their achievements. Holding hands with family and friends, or accompanied by their teachers to walk along “Avenue of Stars”, they came on stage to receive their awards and congratulations.

HQU Party Secretary Xu Xipeng, , HQU President Wu Jianping, Vice Presidents Wang Xiuyong, and Wang Lixia, attended the award ceremony and presented awards to the winners. Heads of relevant departments and colleges were also present at the event.

Xu Xipeng delivered a speech at the ceremony and on behalf of HQU extended warm congratulations to all the award-winners. He hoped that the young emulate these deserving students as role models, stay true to their original aspirations, aim high, have firm ideals and convictions, so as to better fulfill life values while integrating the individuals into the needs of the country and the advancement of human civilization. He encouraged students to work diligently, pursue excellence, dare to be the “first”, carry forward fine traditional culture, promote exchanges between China and world, and become well-rounded young talents with characteristics and traits that make HQUers unique.

Xu Xipeng stressed that all departments, colleges, and teachers of HQU should persist in fostering virtues through education and strive for excellence. He also noted that it is vitally important be more innovative at work, optimize the distribution of educational resources, promote high-quality development to fulfill the potential of higher education, improve governance and support service on campus. He hoped that teachers should work hard to become qualified teachers with firm ideals and beliefs, moral sentiments, solid knowledge and benevolence, and devote themselves to imparting knowledge and educating students.

In the past year, a total of 290 HQU students were awarded National Scholarship, 732 students were awarded National Encouragement Scholarship, and 35 students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas won the honorary titles of “Star of HQU”, “Star of Learning”, “Star of Public Service”, “Star of Community”, and “Star of Arts & Sports”. A batch of student groups and individuals received the national awards including Grand Prize of the 18th “Challenge Cup” National College Student Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition (Entrepreneurship Comprehensive Simulation Competition), the first prize of the National College Student Intelligent vehicle Competition, the silver prize of the China International College Students' "Internet+" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. More pioneering role models come to the fore. They are “Outstanding College Student of the Year” nominees, “the Stars of Self-improvement”, “Model Students” and winners of “Model College Counselors of the Year”.
