The 34th Work Exchange Meeting of Four Universities was held in Quanzhou, Fujian province on November 10. Representatives from Jinan University (JNU), Ningbo University (NBU), Shantou University (STU) and Huaqiao University (HQU) exchanged thoughts on the theme of “Deepening School-Local Cooperation and Boosting High-Quality Development Together”.
President Wu Jianping, Vice President Wang Lixia and Xu Zhiyong of Huaqiao University, President Hao Zhifeng of Shantou University, Vice President Zhang Xiaoxin of Jinan University, Vice President Li Weiping of Ningbo University, as well as heads of relevant departments of the four universities attended the meeting, which was chaired by Wu Jianping.
Wu Jianping stressed that the regular exchange meetings have been serving as an important platform for the four colleges to increase mutual understanding, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and explore ways of development together. As for the seminar this year, the four universities are expected to learn from each other’s successful experience and beneficial practices in the school-local cooperation, so as to enhance the support for high-quality socioeconomic development and make greater contributions to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization.
In the keynote speech session, Li Weiping introduced NBU’s practice of jointly building platforms for school-local cooperation, supporting local industries, assisting local governments to attact and cultivate skilled personnel, and advancing innovation and entrepreneurship. Zhang Xiaoxin introduced JNU’s experience with the titled speech of “Strengthening the Integration of Organized Scientific Research with School-Local Cooperation and Promoting New Breakthroughs in High-Quality Development”, providing new perspectives for school-local cooperation. Hao Zhifeng introduced STU’s experience in light of deepening the reform in the integration between industry and education, and between science and education, promoting the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, strengthening the social service function of universities, and advancing the inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese culture. Wang Lixia introduced HQU’s major initiatives in exploring innovation in the industry-education integration and upgrading the high-quality development in terms of school reform, school-local cooperation programs and university-enterprise cooperation programs.
On the same day, the representatives also visited the HQU (Nan’an) Innovation Center of Stone Industry, a joint talent cultivation base for the integration between industry and education, where they exchanged views on the industry-education integration and the cultivation of talents.
The four universities take turns hosting the annual exchange meeting to communicate on a regular basis, aiming for better developmet in each other’s teaching, research, management and services. The next meeting is to be held in Ningbo University in 2024.
