Release time:2023-11-20      Author:

The International Communication Literacy Training Camp (the Overseas Social Media Operation Workshop) of Huaqiao University (HQU) began on Nov.11, 2023. The camp is hosted by the HQU Press Center, School of Journalism and Communication, and YoyWow Communications. YoyWow Communications is one of the earliest companies exporting Chinese cultural products, and was included on list of “National Key Cultural Export Enterprise” in 2021.

A total of 54 students from 11 colleges were selected to the camp, including more than 20 overseas students from Malaysia, Laos, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, North Korea, and other countries, as well as students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

To bridge the gap between theory and practice, the workshop invited some key people in the field of international communication, the team from Langhua (a Xiamen TV show representing the story of Xiamen local), and senior journalists of Quanzhou TV to give lectures in some courses such as “2023 Digital Analysis of Global Social Media”, “Fundamentals of Overseas Social Media Operation”, “A Guide to Short Videos Shooting and Editing”, and “Finding Topics and Planning for Short Videos”. In addition, they provided guidance and assistance to the campers in the creating process and offered opportunities for displaying their work on domestic and overseas platforms.

This camp is scheduled to close on Dec.2. The excellent works of the participants will be shared on the official website of HQU and domestic and overseas platforms of YoyWow Communications, so as to measure and evaluate their learning outcomes.

In order to enhance the students’ capacities in international communication literacy, HQU officially launched the International Communication Literacy Training Camp in May 2022, organizing a variety of workshops focusing on building skills of short video and live streaming, documentary and news photography, and so on. Senior media professionals from Fujian Media Group, Xiamen TV, and Quanzhou TV were invited to give lectures, and more than 900 students from 20 colleges across the university were enrolled in the program, including over 300 international students from Angola and other countries, as well as students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. A total of 40 short videos and 220 photographs have been produced, and 60 students have been selected for internships in mainstream media such as China News Service, Hong Kong Ta Kung WenWei Media Group, Fujian Daily, Fujian Media Group, and Xiamen Media Group. The overseas social media platforms operated by the students attract nearly 7,000 followers and about 60,000 likes.

Great Moments in Workshop
