Openingceremony on Xiamencampus
With autumn approaching, Huaqiao University (HQU) held its opening ceremoniesfor Class of 2026respectivelyon both Quanzhou and Xiamen campuses.Studentsfrom all over the world came to HQU to start their collegiate careersand let fly their dreams.
Due to the ongoingCOVID-19pandemic,somenewstudents were unable to attend the ceremonyin person. The eventwaslivestreamed forthem, and theirfamily members andfriends to witness thecrucialmoment.
University leaders Xu Xipeng, Wu Jianping, Liu Bin, Bi Mingqiang, Wang Xiuyong, Wang Lixia, Lin Hongyu, Wan Anlun, Wang Jianhua, and president assistant Zhang Yunbo, along withthe deans or party secretaries from each college and school, as well as directors of relevant functional departments attended the ceremonies. Wang Xiuyong, Vice-President of HQU, presided over the ceremony.Teacherrepresentatives, security chiefs, school canteen staff, medical staff, and dormitory supervisors werealsoinvited to take a seat at the rostrum.
Wu Jianping, President of HQU, on behalf of the university, warmly welcome all the freshmen and sent special regards to studentstemporarilyunable toattendschoolinperson. From hiswelcoming remarks, students learned theirfirst university lesson with the theme of “self-madewinners are strong”.
Young experts of the China National Tourism Administration, Prof. Lin Meizhen from the College of Tourism, Prof. Zheng Zhigang, Distinguished Professor of Fujian Minjiang Scholars Program,from the College of Information Science and Engineering, delivered speeches as faculty representatives. Chen Jianshan, Chairman of Xiamen JSC Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd. and Donor of Qingshan Encouragement Scholarship and Faculty Award, from the College of Foreign Languages Class of 1994, spoke on behalf of the alumni. Yang Nan, an undergraduate from the College of Computer Science and Technology, and Fu Donghao, a Hong Kong graduate from the Business School, welcomed the incoming freshmen and shared their learning and growth experiences on behalf of the senior students. Chen Yining from the College of Engineering and Jia Zhechengfrom the College of Civil Engineering,new student representatives, expressing their expectations for the upcoming college life.
At the opening ceremony, the university announced outstanding students in the 2021-2022 academic year, and the university leaders presented the 2022 HQU President’s Special Award to the winners. Among them, seven students from the College of Tourism and seven teams including the Chiao Hsin Volunteer Service Group from the School of Architecture were awarded10,000 yuan per person (team) and Chengzhi Medals. 10,976 students won scholarships of all levels, 5,090 won honorary titles of all kinds, and 1,900 students gained success in national and provincial competitions in the last academic year.
