On the afternoon of March 14th, Wu Xiao’an, Chair Professor and Dean of the Research Institute of Global Chinese and Area Studies of Huaqiao University (HQU), was invited to give an online lecture entitled "Area Studies in China: Path Choice and Professional Writing" to the teachers and students from the Department of Chinese Studies of the National University of Singapore (NUS).
The lecture is centered around a series of puzzles including "what are China's area studies and why?", "what are the research questions and the essence of area studies as for the academic history and world civilizations?", "what is the connection between China’s area studies and its foreign studies, international studies on China, overseas Chinese studies and new Asia studies?", "what is the significance of China’s area studies on its humanities and social sciences, especially the new liberal arts?", and "what are the implications of China’s area studies for universities and colleges of foreign studies?". In the 2-hour online lecture, Professor Wu detailedly addressed those questions and answered impromptu questions from teachers and students at home and abroad.
