On July 30^th, Huang Dongping, an alumna of the School of Political Science and Public Administration of Huaqiao University (HQU), and her partner Wang Yilyu won the gold medal in the badminton mixed doubles event of the Tokyo Olympics. While at HQU, Huang Dongping has participated China University Badminton Championships and other events.

Chen Long, another HQU alumnus also competes at the Tokyo Olympic badminton arena.

HQU boasts the only badminton team in Fujian province that has been recognized as a high-level sports team by the Ministry of Education. This team, in cooperation with the PLA Badminton Team and then Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Sports, has produced many Olympic champions such as Lin Dan, Chen Long and Li Xuerui.
