In order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s key notes, meet the requirements of the United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee and Fujian Provincial Party Committee’s demands of “re-learning, re-investigation, and re-implementation”, and commit to the school principle of “shouldering major responsibilities and cultivating the young”, Wu Jianping, President of Huaqiao University (HQU), and Wang Lixia, Vice President of HQU, paid visits to several enterprises in Quanzhou and Xiamen, including Fujian Sanxing Electric Co., Ltd., Xiamen Golden Egret Special Alloy Co., Ltd., and Joeone Co., Ltd. The team took actions to learn about these companies’ needs, investigate work environment, and visit alumni in the companies, seeking to deepen the cooperation among industry, university and research. Thus, HQU officially commenced the 1,000 Businesses and 1,000 Villages Tour.

The team visited the workshop, laboratory and exhibition hall in each corporation, discussed with the heads, and learned about the enterprise culture and development blueprints in detail. They also introduced HQU’s vision and direction, disciplines and majors, scientific and technological research and development as well as its personnel training. Both sides had discussions on several aspects, including the transformation of scientific research achievements, teaching practice bases, mutual employment and training of personnel, student employment and entrepreneurship, etc.

The visiting team was composed of over twenty HQU staff, including heads of Science & Technology Research Department and relevant colleges and schools, and some young and middle-aged backbone teachers. Heads concerned from Quanzhou Economic Development Zone also joined the visit.

HQU is in charge of the top-level design for the 1,000 Businesses and 1,000 Villages Tour, specify its overall requirements, and dock with local governments and Party committees. The university functional departments will make overall planning and coordination based on the responsibilities of different units. For example, the Science and Technology Research Department and Social Science Research and Management Division will form interdisciplinary teams to respond to the local needs for science and technology, the Office of Educational Administration and Graduate School will be responsible for talent training, and the Students’ Affair Office and Youth League Committee will manage social practice and employment cooperation. All the colleges and schools will establish cooperation platforms for different majors and disciplines, arrange students’ internship and social practice, and carry out consulting services and project cooperation.
