On the evening of November 30th, David Gosset, the founder of the Euro-China Forum, was invited to give a lecture on Chinese Renaissance and Global Future to the students and faculty of Huaqiao University (HQU). President Wu Jianping, Vice President Wang Lixia, and leaders from Graduate School and College of International Relations of HQU, attended the lecture, along with more than one hundred teachers and students.
David Gosset is a French expert in global affairs and international relations, a Sinologist, as well as the founder of the New Silk Road Initiative (NSRI). He is also the board member of several European companies and institutions in the fields of education, management and industry.
In the lecture, David Gosset analyzed the current complex world situation and its causes from four perspectives: demographic change, high-tech development, decentralization of power, and geopolitics. He proposed that China's long history, large population base and unique culture are the main factors influencing its development and growth, while concepts and initiatives such as Community with Shared Future for Mankind and The Belt and Road Initiative have also provided China’s Proposals for promoting world peaceful development and global governance.
“Chinese great renaissance is also pushing the world forward”, David Gosset said. He also pointed that China was more of a civilization lasting for thousands of years than just an economy. Westernization is not the only access to modernization. Since more and more people are learning Chinese nowadays, the reform and opening-up has not only helped the world understand China, but also introduced China to the world. China has stood up, grown richer, became stronger, and then the next step is to be more civilized, only by which can it integrate better into the world and therefore shaping it.
David Gosset also shared his views on hot topics such as cyber security, artificial intelligence, we-media, urbanization and gene editing. He then remarked that “peace cannot be separated from communication” and "modernization does not represent westernization".
In the interactive session, David Gosset expressed his love for traditional Chinese culture such as Chinese characters, A Dream of Red Mansions, Go, Tea, Kun Opera, etc. He encouraged the students of HQU to learn about the world based on the understanding of Chinese culture, to work hard on their professional knowledge, and do their best to contribute to the society and mankind.
Before the lecture, Wu Jianping, Wang Lixia and David Gosset had a discussion on the cooperation between HQU and universities in European countries.
