On the morning of January 10^th, Xu Xipeng, President of Huaqiao University (HQU) visited Tan Tieniu, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government (LOCPG) in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Vice Chairman of HQU’s 8th Board of Directors.

Tan remarked that, HQU has been committed to cultivating all kinds of talent for Hong Kong for many years. With their sincere passion for China and Hong Kong, the Hong Kong alumni of HQU have made positive contributions to the maintenance of "one country, two systems" policy as well as the promotion of Hong Kong's prosperity, development and social stability. It was especially true in recent days when they united as one and strove to call for an end to violence and chaos by giving support to the policy, the law-based administration of HKSAR government under Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor's leadership, and law enforcement by Hong Kong Police Force. Tan fully appreciated the active communication and exchange of HQU with the middle schools in Hong Kong, and hoped that HQU would further its cultivation on Hong Kong students, strengthen the exchange and interaction with universities in Hong Kong, and make new and greater contributions to Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability.

In Tan's view, HQU should take the 60^th anniversary as an opportunity, summarize the experience and achievement of university running and gather broader supports from all social sectors so as to march toward a high-level university at a better and faster pace. Tan ensured that LOCPG in the HKSAR will continue to support HQU for its development and various activities in Hong Kong.

Xu briefed Tan on the recent development of HQU as well as the transition of the 8^th Board of Directors, mainly focusing on the recruitment, cultivation, and employment guidance for Hong Kong students within last year. He hoped that LOCPG in the HKSAR would support HQU’s development as always, and extended an invitation to Tan to visit HQU during its 60^th anniversary in 2020. Xu, on behalf of HQU's Board of Directors, presented Tan with the Letter of Appointment as Vice Chairman of HQU's Board of Directors.

Tang Cuiying, first-class Inspector from Bureau 10 of the United Front Work Department (UFWD) of CPC Central Committee, also attended the meeting. She expressed her gratitude for the support from LOCPG in the HKSAR. She said that, under the guidance of UFWD of the CPC Central Committee, with the loving care of LOCPG in the HKSAR and the extensive support of HQU's School Board and alumni in Hong Kong, HQU will be heading for a greater future. Tang also extended New Year wishes to Tan.

Jiang Jianxiang, Director of the Department of Education and Science and Technology of LOCPG in the HKSAR, and member of HQU's 8^th Board of Directors, was also present.
