Wang Xiuyong and Wang Lixia were both appointed Vice Presidents and Standing Committee Members of Huaqiao University (HQU) according to the decision of the ministerial conference of the United Front Work Department (UFWD) of CPC Central Committee. Due to his age, Wu Jihuai no long holds the posts of Vice President and Standing Committee Member.

On the morning of November 22^nd, HQU held a caucus on Xiamen Campus to announce the above personnel decisions. Among those attending the meeting were Xu Yousheng, Vice Minister of the UFWD of CPC Central Committee and Director of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, Zhang Qi, Associate Director of the Cadre Bureau of the United Front Department of the Central Committee, Lin Maoyao, Second-class Inspector from the Department of Organization of Fujian Provincial Party Committee, Wu Weiping, Member of Education Commission of Fujian Provincial Party Committee, Member and Deputy Director of the Department of Education of Fujian, other comrades concerned from the UFWD of CPC Central Committee and Education Commission of Fujian Provincial Party Committee, all HQU’s leaders and some of those who left their posts recently, the President Assistant, and all middle-level cadres of HQU.

Wu Jihuai thanked the Party for its long-term trust, loving care, and cultivation, and expressed a will to return to his favorite teaching and scientific research post as a professor so as to make continuous contributions for his beloved University.

Wang Xiuyong expressed his resolution in shouldering responsibilities and working diligently. Staying true to the aspiration, he was determined to serve the faculties and students whole-heartedly, join hands with them to ensure that HQU enjoys a good reputation, and contribute his efforts to make the university a high-level university with prominent characteristics of serving overseas Chinese. Wang Lixia remarked that she would make more efforts to keep learning, improve her comprehensive abilities, and further strengthen various capacities. Regarding strengthening morality and servicing faculties and students as a starting point, she promised to discharge her responsibilities and work hard, thus living up to the trust and expectations of the Committee as well as the faculties and students.

Guan Yifan, Secretary of the Party Committee of HQU, made the remarks that the new leadership of HQU would live up to the trust of the UFWD of CPC Central Committee and the expectations of all faculties and students. Under the strong leadership of UFWD of CPC Central Committee, guided by President Xi Jinping's socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics in the new era, they would be committed to following the Party’s undertakings about higher education and united fronts of overseas Chinese affairs, and fully implementing the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee and those of the National Education Conference, National Conference on Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities, and the Party Affairs of UFWD of CPC Central Committee, as well as the keynotes and special action plans from President Xi’s inspection of Jinan University. Concerted efforts based on moral education should lay a solid foundation for essential development, accelerate the construction of building HQU as a Double First Class university, and push forward various jobs of the university, thus welcoming the university's 60th anniversary with outstanding achievements.

Xu Yousheng delivered an important speech at the meeting, fully appreciating the significant contributions made by Wu Jihuai to the orderly and sound development of HQU over the past 15 years. Xu emphasized that the appointment was made by the UFWD of CPC Central Committee under a prudent and multiple-ruminating consideration that focused on the needs of HQU's development and prevailing condition of its leadership, aiming to optimize the structure of and strengthen the performance of HQU's leadership. Furthermore, he advocated that HQU should stay committed to focusing on moral education, forging a renowned university that features in serving overseas Chinese, and shaping a positive attitude for sincere cooperation.

Xu Xipeng, President of HQU, presided over the meeting. He suggested that staff of HQU at all levels should learn from the spirit of Xu Yousheng's speech, fully implement the ardent hope of the UFWD of CPC Central Committee into all aspects, and firmly promote the development strategy of building HQU as a renowned university that features being overseas-Chinese-oriented as well as its high-quality development in full spirit and a high sense of responsibility.
