Annual Report on the Research of Thailand (2018) Released in Beijing

On the morning of April 13th, the Blue Book of Thailand: Annual Report on the Research of Thailand (2018) was released by Huaqiao University (HQU) and Social Sciences Academic Press (SSAP) in Beijing.


Organized and compiled by the Institute of Thailand Studies of HQU (also known as Sirindhorn Center for Chinese-Thai Relations), the 2018 Report is the third blue book of Thailand since the first publication of the 2016 volume, and the landmark achievement of HQU in the national and regional researches for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) construction.


The Blue Book is structured from four perspectives, i.e., General Report, Domestic Situation of Thailand, External Relations of Thailand and Appendix, which aims at increasing the awareness of and promoting the researches on Thailand from all sectors of society in China, thus contributing to the development of Chinese-Thai relations.


The General Report reveals significant changes in Thai politics and economy, as well as the Chinese-Thai relations in the past year, by closely tracking and assessing the situation of Thailand and the Chinese-Thai relations. The Appendix is an abridged translation of A Business Guide to Thailand (2018) published by Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), with information about the application for work permits, foreign business activities, taxation and labor regulations in Thailand.



The Release Conference was co-hosted by Institute of Thailand Studies of College of International Relations of HQU and Institute of Asian Studies of China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU). Scholars and specialists from higher education institutions and research institutes attended the conference, including HQU, CFAU, Peking University (PKU), Thammasat University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR), National Defence University of People’s Liberation Army (NDU, PLA), University of International Relations (UIR) and SSAP.


The Thailand Situation and Chinese-Thai Relations Symposium was held at the same day. Participants held in-depth and heated discussions on topics including Thailand political situation, Chinese-Thai relations, Thai-U.S. relations, compilation of the Blue Book of Thailand and Thai studies.
