As a university established for and thriving on the overseas Chinese, Huaqiao University is characterized by its openness and internationalization. For more than half a century, the university has been committed to recruiting students from abroad, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and promoting international academic cooperation, exchange programs for students and teachers, and Chinese language education. The university has signed inter-school cooperation agreements with more than 200 universities, educational and research institutions in over 50 countries and regions. It has also set up 77 admissions offices around the world, along with the International School that offers courses in English (English-medium programs) on campus. Currently with 4,627 overseas students from over 50 countries and regions including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, the university has become one of the universities with the largest number of overseas students in China.
