From December 2nd to 6th, the 2024 “Belt and Road” Talent Development Program Senior Seminar, guided by the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, supported by the Tanoto Foundation China, and implemented by Huaqiao University (HQU), was successfully held in Xiamen. 30 high-level officials and scholars from 9 countries, including Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Iran, participated in and completed the seminar successfully. Wu Jianping, President of HQU, and the designated officials from the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission attended the graduation ceremony and presented the graduation certificates to the participants.
Wu Jianping congratulated all the participants on the successful completion of their tasks and expressed his hope that they would transform their experiences and insights into both consensus and action. He called on the participants to uphold the Silk Road spirit, adhere to unity and cooperation, and jointly build a brighter future for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and a community with a shared future for mankind.
Three representatives from Indonesia, Iran, and Sri Lanka were invited to speak and shared their insights and experiences from seminar. They expressed that their participation had provided them with a deeper understanding of the mechanism and innovation-driven approaches necessary for high-quality joint construction of the BRI. They also looked forward to engaging in more cooperation with China in the future development of the BRI.
During the seminar, focusing on topics such as high-quality joint development of the BRI, industrial investment and cooperation, circular economy, digital economy, cultural exchanges and mutual learning, and green finance, experts and scholars including Zhao Ai, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Society of Economic Reform, Liu Jianxing, Deputy Director of the Market and Price Research Institute at the China Academy of Macroeconomic Research, Academician Lu Jun of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhu Bing, Dean of Institute of Circular Economy at Tsinghua University, Wang Qiubin, Dean of College of International Relations at HQU, and Liu Wei, a representative of the Tax Committee Working Group of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), were invited to lecture for the participants.
In addition, the participants attended two roundtable discussions on the themes of "Innovative Practices in Smart City Governance" and "Exploration of Circular Economy Models in Green Supply Chains". They visited and conducted research at well-known enterprises and industrial parks in Xiamen, such as the Xiamen Software Park, Xiangyu Group, and the "Maritime Silk Road" shipping platform, engaging in panel discussions and on-site teaching. They also traveled to Quanzhou, the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road, to gain firsthand experience of the high-quality development achievements and historical roots of the core area.
Since the launch in 2017, the Belt and Road Talent Development Program Senior Seminar has been successfully held for 8 sessions, with over 400 government officials, experts, and business executives from more than 50 countries in the BRI participating.
