The 2024 FISU University World Cup 3x3 Basketball concluded at Huaqiao University’s Xiamen campus on the evening of November 24th after three days of fierce competition. Vytautas Magnus University of Lithuania triumphed over Nantes University of France 21-11 to claim the men’s champion. China’s Tsinghua University secured their third women’s title after defeating Carleton University from Canada 21-15.
In the shootout contests, Zheng Xiaogang from Huaqiao University and Paola Flores from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education Toluca of Mexico claimed the men’s and women’s titles respectively.
The host Huaqiao University topped the group and advanced to the quarterfinals, but was defeated by the Mon-Altius Physical Education Institute, this year’s third winner, failing to make it to the semifinals.
The closing ceremony and award ceremony were held the same evening. Martin Doulton, senior EC member of FISU, Wang Lixia, Vice President of HQU, and Gao Yang, Deputy General Manager of Xiamen Sports Industry Group, attended the ceremony and presented awards to the winners. Wang and Dalton delivered closing speeches in order.
On behalf of HQU, Wang extended her warm congratulations to all the winners, expressed her profound respect to all the athletes, coaches and staff, and conveyed her sincere gratitude to FISU, Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) for their professional guidance, and to the units at all levels for their strong support.
Doulton declared the conclusion of the competition, stating that the event was one of the most complex ones on FISU’s schedule, yet the outcomes far exceeded the expectations of both athletes and officials. On behalf of FISU, he expressed heartfelt thanks to the organizing committee, athletes, referees, commentators, and all the staff and volunteers from HQU.
This year’s event was hosted by FISU and co-organized by HQU, Zhuque Zhanchi Sports Management (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., and Xiamen Sports Industry Group Event Operations Co., Ltd., with a total of 24 teams from five continents participating in the event.
