In celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, the sixth session of the Friendly Cultural Exchange Program, jointly initiated by the Xiamen People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Huaqiao University, officially launched on the evening of October 16. This project attracted 3,070 Brazilian high school mathematics teachers. Notable attendees at the opening ceremony included Ceará Governor Elmano de Freitas, Chinese Consul General in Recife Lan Heping, Deputy Director of the Fujian Provincial Foreign Affairs Office Huang Shaorong, Director of the Xiamen Foreign Affairs Office Zhang Quan, and Huaqiao University Vice President Lin Hongyu.
This session, in line with the United Nations’ goals for sustainable education, focuses on development and lifelong learning. It seeks to engage in global education governance, enhance the quality of basic mathematics education worldwide, showcase educational influence, and promote mutual understanding between Chinese and foreign civilizations. Targeted at Brazilian high school math teachers, the program aims to improve the quality of mathematics education, update teaching concepts, and refine teaching skills. Leveraging the high-quality faculty and extensive teaching experience of the School of Mathematical Science at Huaqiao University, the program will offer ten-week specialized training covering various topics in high school mathematics, including algebra, functions, sequences, geometry, probability, statistics, and the application of educational technology.
The sixth session also includes training for high school math teachers in Indonesia. Nearly 300 Indonesian math teachers are involved, with strong support from the Chinese Consulate in Surabaya and the Fujian Provincial Foreign Affairs Office. The opening ceremony was attended by Xu Yong, Chinese Consul General in Surabaya, and Gusti Anin, Director of the Teacher and Staff Department of the Surabaya Education Bureau.
