Dato’s Sri Prof. Dr. Tahir, a renowned Chinese-Indonesian businessman of Fujian descent, recently donated 200 million yuan to Huaqiao University (HQU) to establish Tahir Scholarship.
On October 14, the donation ceremony was held in Fuzhou. Wang Yongli, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and Executive Vice Governor of Fujian Province, officials of the provincial Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, Education Department, Commerce Department, Health Commission, Foreign Affairs Office and other units, as well as leaders from the universities receiving donations, i.e., Xiamen University, Fuzhou University, Huaqiao University and Putian University, attended the ceremony.
Xu Zhiyong, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC HQU Committee and Vice President of HQU signed a donation agreement with Dato’s Sri Prof. Dr. Tahir, and issued him with a donation certificate for his generosity.
Tahir Scholarship will be granted to excellent HQU students with high academic achievements and outstanding performance, hoping to inspire them to pursue excellency, contribute their wisdom and strengths, and carry on the good spirits of diligence, innovation and commitment. The scholarship will be awarded annually to 100 full-time undergraduates for four consecutive years, with each recipient receiving 5,000 yuan each year.
