Recently, Huaqiao University (HQU) held an appointment ceremony for publicity ambassadors of language service. Thirty alumni of the College of Preparatory Education from 21 countries, including Russia, Ethiopia, India, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Gambia, were appointed as inaugural publicity ambassadors for its language services.
HQU Vice President Lin Hongyu and Dai Jinzhu, deputy director of the Publicity Department of Jimei District Committee of Xiamen, attended the ceremony, and awarded appointment letters to language service ambassadors.
Lin Hongyu said that language serves as a bridge that connects the world, and hoped that the publicity ambassadors would promote HQU’s language service worldwide, contributing to a more interconnected world.
“It's an incredible honor to be chosen as an ambassador. I couldn’t be more proud. This ambassadorship feels like both a culmination of my past work with language service and a launchpad for even greater involvement in the future.” Zhao Yongde, an alumnus from Bangladesh, voiced his keen interest in keeping tabs on HQU and Jimei District’s progress and future developments, and actively promoting HQU’s language services.
Chang Sheng from Cambodia said, “Graduation saw us part ways – some of us headed back home, others stayed in China to study further. But HQU remains our common sun, warming and guiding us wherever we go. Now HQU serves as a national service export base in language services. As alumni, we are expected to better fulfill our bridging roles, finding ways to contribute our skills and resources back to the institution that shaped us.”
Following their appointment ceremony, the ambassadors visited places including Jimei Software Park Phase III and Venus Art Industrial Park, and engaged in panel discussions at the Industry Expo of Jimei District. They shared their amazement at the rapid changes taking place in Jimei. Many expressed eagerness to apply the knowledge they’d gained in China back home, with the goal of boosting economic and cultural exchanges between their countries and China.
Marcofrom São Tomé and Príncipe, who studied aeronautical engineering and technology, said, “I am interested in the research and development of urban low-altitude aircraft presented at the expo. I am keen to explore potential partnerships with local companies in Jimei to help bring this technology to my country.”
After visiting the software park, Li Zheng from Kyrgyzstan, who majored in computer science and technology, remarked, “The visit really opened my eyes to the innovative spirit and growth potential of the high-tech companies in Jimei District and more opportunities for collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative. I’m excited about the possibilities for collaboration with these firms. Together, we could really boost economic growth and cultural exchanges between the two sides.”
HQU’s collaboration with Jimei District Government on the National Language Service Export Base Public Platform has sparked ongoing innovation in language services exports. This initiative serves as a cultural and commercial bridge, showcasing Chinese fine culture, products, services, technologies, and standards to the world. At the same time, it’s designed to attract top-tier global projects, talent, and investment to China.
