English teacher Tan Yinglin from the College of Foreign Languages, Huaqiao University (HQU) won the special prize in the English Major Group in the 15th SFLEP National Foreign Language Teaching Contest, Fujian Division, recently held at Fuzhou University. Tan stood out from among twenty-three English teachers selected from twenty universities across Fujian Province. This is also the first time a teacher from HQU has won the special prize in this competition.
The contest was divided into two categories: “English Major Group” and “Business English Major Group”. National and provincial experts in English teaching and research evaluated the contestants based on six criteria: teaching design, teaching content, teaching process, teaching effectiveness, overall quality, and teaching innovation. Ultimately, one special prize, four first prizes, and six to seven second prizes were awarded in each group.
The contest is sponsored by the National Advisory Committee on Teaching English Languages to Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, the National Foreign Languages Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. Itaims to drive the development of university English teaching staff, promote the growth of teachers’ professional skills, and deepen the reform of university English teaching. The contest covers more than 1,000 universities and vocational colleges nationwide and involves hundreds of thousands of university English teachers.
