Recently, Huaqiao University (HQU) received 27 participants from the Seminar on Trade Promotion for Spanish-Speaking Countries, a China-aid training program hosted by Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China (MOFCOM). The participants are government officials from departments of agriculture, foreign affairs, customs, trade promotion, and export and tourism promotion of Chile, Uruguay, Panama, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Equatorial Guinea, and Nicaragua.
At HQU’s National Language Service Export Base, participants took a Chinese course for beginners, and an experiential course of Chinese folk sports. They also took trips to the Base’s cooperative enterprises Lota and Meitu during their short stay at HQU.
Rodrigo, an official from PromPerú, the Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism, said that the Chinese courses were fun. He learned everyday expressions, and could say more than “nihao” (“hello” in Chinese) now. He even kept the slides of the Chinese course for future review, “Hopefully, I could have another chance, a longer time at HQU to improve my Chinese.”
“I think being able to speak Chinese can help me with my work in the economic and trade cooperation between Argentina and China. Today, China is boasting advanced manufacturing technologies and I hope we could do business with the enterprises we visited, ” said Agustin, an official from Argentine Chamber of Trade and Services.
As part of MOFCOM’s China-aid programs, the training courses aim to facilitate the cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries through language services, and promote communication as well as economic and trade cooperation between Xiamen and Latin American countries.
