HQU Holds Seminar on Improving Teacher Training for Overseas Chinese Language Schools

On April 17, a seminar on the betterment of teacher training for overseas Chinese language schools was held on Xiamen campus, Huaqiao University (HQU). Vice President Lin Hongyu presided over the seminar. Directors and teachers from the Chinese Language and Culture Education Office, the Academic Affairs Office, the College of Physical Education, the College of Chinese Language and Culture, the College of Computer Science and Technology, the College of Music and Dance, and the Institute of Chinese Language and Culture Education attended the seminar.


At the Seminar, Tu Wei, Director of the Chinese Language and Culture Education Office, briefed the attendees on the university’s efforts in teacher training for overseas Chinese language schools over recent years, including the introduction of six modules, the differentiation of training, the development of a training team with international vision, and diversified training methods. He also brought forth some sticking points.


Dr. Li Xin, Associate Professor of the Institute of Chinese Language and Culture Education and Director of the Development and Research Centre of Chinese Language Teachers, shared her survey on and analysis of the occupational survival of overseas Chinese language teachers. Dr. Fu Mengyun presented a report on training effectiveness of teachers and improvement strategies.


Attendees analyzed the curriculum setting and discussed effective strategies and methods from diverse perspectives including Chinese language and literature, traditional Chinese medicine, new media communication, mental health education, AI intelligent teaching, and folk sports. They also shared their experiences and practices, pulling their wisdom and strength together for the development of overseas Chinese language and culture education.


Attendees generally agreed that teacher training in overseas Chinese language schools should be more practical and pertinent. It is important to formulate training programs according to the specific needs of overseas Chinese language and culture education. Suggestions were also made on better collaboration and sharing of teacher training.
