On the morning of Sep 7, the awards ceremony of the Fifth Belt and Road Initiative Short Video Competition was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. To mark the 10th anniversary of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the competition was co-hosted by the China Public Diplomacy Association, the News Centre of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), and Huanqiu.com. The short videos from Huaqiao University (HQU) stood out from over 1,000 entries from nearly 100 countries and regions across the world, and won two awards. International Youth Visiting Hani Terraces won the Overseas Regional Competition Award, and Hand Puppet Show won Excellent Work Award.

Hua Chunying, Chinese Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, addressed the competition, saying the BRI initiated by Chinacreates opportunities for the whole world. She expected that more builders and participators from the countries of the BRI keep recording heart warming stories of the close people-to-people bond, so as to make more efforts to enhance understanding and friendship between China and the world, and work together for a community with a shared future.

Andrea Venegas Torres (Chinese name:Stu Ruyu), a Mexico student of the new media studio of HQU---“Voice of Overseas Students”, the only award-winning representative of overseas regional competition zones said in her speech that since she started studying in HQU, she has had the opportunity to explore many cities and villages in China, and witnessed the vigorous development of China through a Chinese path to modernization, thanks to the support of the Chinese government and HQU. “Both the Chinese culture and Chinese language are growing popularity in Mexico. The BRI cooperation between China and Latin America has also benefited the local people. Therefore, I hope I can be a good bridge to connect the two countries so as to contribute to promoting China-Mexico friendship and cooperation.” she added.

Themed “Open Up a New Chapter Together through Connectivity”, the Fifth Belt and Road Initiative Short Video Competitionen compasses a worldwide competition area as well as several international regional competition areas. It invited builders and participators from countries along the BRI to tell stories of the close people-to-people bond between China and foreign countries via short videos. Initiated in June this year, the competition garnered over 1,000 entries from nearly 100 countries and regions across the world, which received a total of over 1.3 billion views globally, around 200 million of which were overseas.
