On August 8^th, 207 students from Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines and Myanmar attended the online live graduation ceremony for the 16^thForeign Government Officials’ Chinese Language Class after successfully completing their one-year online programs.

With the theme of “mutual cultural appreciation starts from languages”, the ceremony was livestreamed via VOOV and CLASS IN. Vice President Lin Hongyu attended online.

In the past year, despite of many difficulties, the students worked during the day while squeezed out evenings and weekends to attend online courses.

During the ceremony, teachers expressed good wishes and hopes to students. After the ceremony, students threw an elaborate graduation party to express their strong feelings and love for China and its language and culture.

The graduation ceremony was attended by Zhang Xiangsheng, Vice President of Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association and Deputy Director of Education Committee, Cai Baishan, Vice President and Secretary-General, Li Zuqing, principal of Myanmar Fuqing School and Fuqing Confucius Classroom, leaders from the Chinese Language and Culture and Preparatory Education College of HQU, all teachers of online Chinese Language Class, and some representatives of former students.

Over the past 16 years, HQU’s Foreign Government Officials’ Chinese Language Class has enrolled students from countries and regions along the Belt and Road Initiative, especially ASEAN countries. The offering and popularizing of a series of courses on Chinese language, Chinese culture and China’s foreign relations have boosted the cooperation and exchanges between China and ASEAN countries, and provided more powerful talent support for the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
