Release time:2022-06-19      Author:

On June 17th, Huaqiao University (HQU) held an exchange meeting for its graduating international students to meet face-to face with President Wu Jianping.

At Qiaoyuan, the student community center of Quanzhou Campus, graduates of different majors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and overseas recollected their life at HQU.

President Wu thanked the graduating seniors for their insightful questions and constructive suggestions, and addressed the issues that they were deeply concerned with, such as the communication across the two campuses and the integration of domestic and international students in the syllabus. Meanwhile, he hoped that all departments, colleges and units would follow the university’s guidelines to improve the education of overseas students, and create a better environment for them.

President Wu then expressed his heartfelt congratulations on their graduation and commencement of a new journey despite COVID-19 obstacles. He hoped they would progress further, serve the society, the community, and repay their families with a grateful heart, and achieve a brighter future.

President Wu also sent his expectations to the graduates in three aspects. The first is toembracethe world and enhance their confidence. One should approach the challenges facing the country and the world from a higher and broader perspective, and grasp the general trend of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the progress of human civilization. One should always have confidence in the future of their country, their nation and all humankind, and most of all in themselves. The second is to pursue lifelong learning and apply what they have learned. Only those who keep learning and progressing could win in an era of knowledge explosion. One should always learn through practice, through problem solving and from others. The third is to promote Chinese culture with what they have acquired in HQU. They could tell Chinese stories to the world, and contribute to the exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations, and to the friendship and cooperation between China and the rest of the world.

15 graduating international students were invited to the meeting. Together with their teachers, they exchanged their unique HQU stories and looked to the future of their Alma Mater, and of themselves.

Staff from the Student Affairs Office, the Graduate School, the Academic Affairs Office and the Logistics Office participated in the meeting.
