On May 29th, Huaqiao University held the 2ndDragon Boat Challenge at Xiamen Campus to celebrate the coming Dragon Boat Festival.Nearly 200 domestic and international students from 12 colleges competed on the Egret Lake to keep up with the tradition and carry forward the spirit of Chinese dragon boat racing.
After fierce competition, the team from College of Civil Engineering came first, followed by the teams from College of Computer Science and Technology and College of Information Science and Engineering.
The newly-crowned champions then played an exhibition match with the international student team, domestic student team and athlete team, bringing an exceedingly marvelous visual feast to the audience.
HQU boasts the only dragon boat training base set up by the China Overseas Exchange Association (COEA). The training base aims to improve players’ physical fitness and inherit Chinese culture while promoting the sport and the spirit of dragon boat racing. It also encourages its athletes to do HQU pride.Thedragon boat teamwon the championship in the 2ndCultures of China: Chinese Artistic and Cultural Talent (Dragon Boat Racing) Competition for Global Chinese and the fourth place in the 4thWorld Elite University Dragon Boat Regatta in 2013. They also represented China in Penang International Dragon Boat Festival heldinMalaysia, 2015.
In recent years, the base has trained hundreds of dragon boat coaches for dozens of countries and spread traditional Chinese culture all over the world through the dragon boat.HQU’s professional dragon boat training center is already under construction and will become the first of its kind among China’s universities.
