On the afternoon of December 16^th, Huaqiao University (HQU) held an online signing ceremony with Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) of Pakistan. Under the agreement, the two sides will carry out exchanges and cooperation in academic research, student exchanges, teaching and research staff exchanges, and joint academic conferences.

HQU Vice President Wang Lixia and MUET President Uqaili signed the agreement and delivered remarks on behalf of the two universities.

Wang pointed out that 2021 marked the 70^thanniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has become a flagship project underthe Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)with energy as a key area for cooperation. She also said that the signing of the agreement would allow engineering majors of the two universities to work together to train Pakistani talents in energy technology and make due contributions to deepening the cooperation of CPEC and promoting the BRI.

Uqaili said that CPEC is of great significance to further the partnership between China and Pakistan. Thiscooperation with HQU will help enhance the cooperation of CPEC. He hoped the two universities will cooperate fully in talent training for more high-quality and high-level local application-oriented personnel for Pakistan.

Established in 1963, MUET is a public university in Pakistan. It is located in Sindh in northernPakistanand has about 6,000 undergraduate students and 3,500master’sand doctoralstudents. According to the rankingsissuedby Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, MUET is one of the Top 10 Best Engineering Universities in Pakistan.
