HQU Board Members and Alumnus Receive Honours and Awards from HKSAR

The 2021 Honours and Awards Presentation Ceremony of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) was held at the ballroom of Government House in Hong Kong from November 20thto 22nd. Chief Executive Carrie Lam presided over the ceremony and presented honours and awards in person. Lo Man-Tuen, a board member of Huaqiao University (HQU), received the Grand Bauhinia Medal, Yiu Chi-Shing, another HQU board member, the Gold Bauhinia Star, and Wong Ka-Yu, an HQU alumnus, the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Government / Public Service.


Lo Man-Tuen is the member of the 12th Standing Committee of the National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the HQU life honorary board member and the 4th and 5th HQU board member. He is commended for his consistent contributions to the society, in consolidating the clansmen’s efforts to promote economic and cultural exchanges between the Mainland and Hong Kong, and to advocate the harmony and stability of the society. With his generosity, care for the community and sense of responsibility, Lo sees his duty to call on overseas Chinese for the development of our country.


Yiu Chi-Shing is the member of the CPPCC National Committee, the 4th and 5th HQU board member, and the deputy chairman of the 6th to 8th HQU board. He is awarded GBS in recognition of his outstanding contributions to serving the society. He shows special concern about the health of the underprivileged, and has established charity funds to provide support services. Over the years, he has led overseas Chinese associations in Hong Kong to organize cultural exchanges and community service activities for building a caring and inclusive society.


Wong Ka-Yu is an HQU alumnus of class of 2016 majoring in finance and currently a senior immigration assistant in the Hong Kong Immigration Department. He has made great contributions to fight against COVID-19. He participated in two important missions in Wuhan to assist with the evacuation of Hong Kong residents stranded in Hubei Province in 2020 and the first mandatory regional testing in HKSAR in early 2021.


A total of 746 recipients received honours and awards, among them 7 the Grand Bauhinia Medal, 18 the Gold Bauhinia Star and 335 the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Government / Public Service.
