On September 21, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) of Thailand honored the organizations and individuals from all walks of life who had spread positive energy and made outstanding contributions to Thai society during the COVID-19 pandemic. Li Zhiwei, an alumnus of the Huaqiao University (HQU) and captain of the Royal Thai Police (RTP), was presented with the Outstanding Contribution Award.

Li Zhiwei, a student of the 15^thForeign Government Officials’ Chinese Class of HQU, is currently a criminal police in Narathiwat District of the Royal Thai Police, and actively engaged in human trafficking investigation and crackdown. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students like Li Zhiwei could not return to school on time, but their study still continued thanks to the online programs offered by HQU. Through online courses, students not only gained a better grasp of the Chinese language, but also learned about China’s experience and touching stories in combating COVID-19. Inspired by these Chinese role models, Li made outstanding contribution to the prevention and control of the epidemic in Thailand.

In a media interview, Li Zhiwei said that he would advance his Chinese language learning endeavor, keep making progress in his major study, and give full play to his educational experience in China, thus contributing to the building of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and a community with a shared future for humanity.
