An original short video created by “海外新声代(Voice of Overseas Students)”, the new media studio of Huaqiao University (HQU), achieves Outstanding Award in “My China Story” the 3rdInternational Short Video Competition hosted by China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration. The award-winningChinese Handicrafts Class(instructors Wang Yi and Peng Huiting) is the only work from universities.
Chinese Handicrafts Classrecords the traditional handicraft course of intangible cultural heritage run by Chinese Language and Culture College. International students from Fiji, Indonesia and Mauritius learn Chinese intangible heritage handicrafts like Bamboo and Rattan Weaving, Sashiko and Cloisonne Enamel Bookmark from masters. They also share their immersive experience of the real “Chinese Stunt” with netizens home and abroad via Chinese and English WeChat public accounts, WeChat channels, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
Since the founding of Voice of Overseas Students in December 2020, over 70 international students from 16 countries like the USA, Ireland and Angola have hosted the 118 episodes of bilingual videos, such as “Embracing China”, “Amazing China”, and “Chinese Vaccines Overseas”. Many of the videos have been accepted by People’s Daily, and posted on its YouTube channel and Facebook account. China Media Group (CMG) has set up a podcast column “海外新声代•Amazing China” in CRI online. The “Amazing China” series have been approved as the key foreign cultural influential project by Cyberspace Administration of China and the All-China Youth Federation. The episode “Keywords of the Two Sessions in the Eyes of International Students” has been selected as a typical case of “Internet Communication” by Cyberspace Administration of China.
