In response to the call of staying local to celebrate Chinese New Year, some teachers and students of Huaqiao University (HQU) have chosen to stay on campus this year. Some staff are even working during the vacation. With colorful activities organized by the university, they together enjoyed a happy, cheerful Chinese New Year’s Eve.
This year, HQU continued to provide the new year eve dinner to everyone on campus, a tradition of more than 30 years, but due to the pandemic, they had to pick up the meals instead of gathering around the table. The staff and students could pick up meals with meal tickets from the First Dining Hall and Nanyuan Dining Hall on Quanzhou Campus and Zijing No. 2 Canteen on Xiamen Campus. On the Eve, 11th February, they enjoyed the meals either in small groups in the canteen, or with their families through online video chats in the dormitory.
At dinner time, Wu Jianping, President of HQU, and Wang Xiuyong, Vice President of HQU, paid special visits to the faculty and students on the two campuses respectively.
About 8 p.m., many teachers and students joined together to watch the 2021 Spring Festival Gala in Qiaoyuan Neighborhood Center where they had a great time with snacks and games.
