The 15th Chinese College Student of the Year, under the guidance of Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and People’s Daily, jointly sponsored by People’s Daily Online, the education department of Guangming Daily, China Campus, and Chinese College Students Online has announced its results. Lin Kebin, student of Huaqiao University (HQU), is honored with the 15th Chinese College Student of the Year. He is also the first HQU student to receive this title.
As a PhD student of College of Materials Science and Engineering, Lin Kebin has secured significant progress in the research of perovskite light-emitting diode (LED), issued his outcomes in Nature, a top international academic journal, and applied for an international patent. The research findings are complimented by Nature as a monumental breakthrough in perovskite LED, awarded as one of the Top 10 Optical Achievements in China of 2018 and included in the 2018 China’s Most Influential International Academic Papers. Lin Kebin participated in three projects in the National Natural Science Foundation of China, two Key Discipline Construction Funds for Universities under the Central Government, and three Fujian Provincial Natural Science Foundation Projects. He has also issued over 10 papers in Science Citation Index in the past three years, claimed one international patent, and won multiple awards and honors including Scholarship of China Telecom, National Scholarship for Doctoral Students, and Stars of Self-improvement of Chinese College Students.
The activity, centered around the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, is to explore and commend the advanced models of college students, and set them as exemplary figures. Twenty College Students of the Year have been selected and awarded, and 30 finalists have been named, out of 114 shortlisted candidates.
