Recently, Huaqiao University, together with Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese and the Foreign Affairs Committee of Quanzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), jointly organized an experience activity in Quanzhou. More than 50 overseas freshmen participated in the trip.
The students visited China Museum for Fujian-Taiwan Kinship, South Shaolin Temple of Quanzhou and Quanzhou Intangible Culture Heritage Museum. At China Museum for Fujian-Taiwan Kinship, the students paid close attention to the explanation of the historical relationship between Chinese mainland and Taiwan, and understood the historical origin of Fujian-Taiwan kinship and “one family on both sides of the Taiwan Strait”. In South Shaolin Temple of Quanzhou, they watched the marvelous martial arts performance, and tried to learn Kung Fu moves under the guidance of Shaolin monks so as to experience Quanzhou martial arts culture. In Quanzhou Intangible Culture Heritage Museum, they appreciated the exhibition of intangible cultural heritage achievements as well as the unique techniques and production process. They were deeply attracted and impressed by the exquisite skills, rich furnishings, and Quanzhou’s multicultural connotation as the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road.
In order to strengthen the practical education of overseas students, the United Front Work Department of the Party Committee of HQU actively expands the cooperation between the university and the local government, building a practical platform. Since 2009, it has carried out cultural experience and practical activities with Committee for Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese and the Foreign Affairs Committee of Quanzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) for 12 consecutive years. These activities have played a positive role in not only helping the overseas freshmen of HQU to quickly understand, love and integrate into the nature, history and culture of Quanzhou where they are studying now, but also enhancing their patriotic spirit and national consciousness.
