The 9th Chinese-Thai Strategic Research Seminar, co-organized by Huaqiao University (HQU), the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association (TCCEA), opened on the morning of December 8th.
Different from previous sessions, the seminar this year was held simultaneously in Xiamen City of China, and Nakhon Nayok of Thailand, and they were connected online through cloud conferences.
As the organizer at Chinese venue, HQU invited experts and scholars from Peking University, Sun Yat-sen University, Xiamen University, National University of Defense Technology, Yunnan University and other universities to attend the meeting on-sites or online to share knowledge and discuss future collaboration with academics at Thai venue.
As 2020 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, the seminar was held on the topic of “45th Year of Chinese-Thai Diplomatic Relations: Sharing Experiences and Future Cooperation”, focusing on the pathways to cooperation and future prospects of the two nations in many fields, such as cultural exchanges, experience in poverty alleviation, sustainable development, governance mode, economic and trade cooperation, and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) construction under the new situation. During the two-day meeting, the representatives of both sides discussed on six themes: Cultural Exchanges between China and Thailand, Poverty Reduction in China and Thailand: Practice and Experience, Sustainable Development, The China Model, China-Thailand Cooperation under Sino-U.S. Competition, the Belt and Road Initiative and Overseas Chinese. A doctoral forum on Thai studies was hosted at the same time.
Since 2012, the annual Chinese-Thai Strategic Research Seminar has been a landmark achievement of the comprehensive cooperation between HQU, NRCT and TCCEA. It has become a high-end platform for exchanges among academics, political circles and think tanks of the two countries, which has received high attention from both societies.
