Recently, the Third Chinese Cultural Workshop on Cloud held by Huaqiao University (HQU) has come to an end after two months’ training. Attending the workshop were nearly 200 overseas Chinese youth from three different Chinese schools, Huade Chinesisch Schule Berlin, Escola Chinesa de Lisboa, and Scuola Internazionale Italo Cinese.
Based on the teaching experience from the previous two phases and the actual demands of overseas Chinese schools, the cloud workshop has added courses such as Guzheng (a Chinese plucked zither), sinology and ancient poetry appreciation, to establish a more systematic, diversified and customized curriculum system.
Li Yi, a teacher from Scuola Internazionale Italo Cinese who attended the cloud class for the first time, said, “I would like to sincerely thank Huaqiao University for bringing us this Chinese cultural feast. Among all the courses, Chinese painting class is most popular with students.”
Wang Juanjuan, a teacher from Huade Chinesisch Schule Berlin, has attended the cloud workshop three times in a row. “I am quite grateful for the wonderful and colorful courses customized by Huaqiao University according to our teaching needs, especially the Guzheng course that students are extremely interested in. We hope to carry out more cooperation with Huaqiao University in the future”, she remarked.
Liu Tingting, a student from Escola Chinesa de Lisboa, said that through this cloud workshop, she learned about the history and culture, life customs, food culture, cultural festivals and folk art of many places in China.
In order to help overseas Chinese teenagers return to the Chinese culture classroom during the pandemic, the youth volunteer service team from Overseas Chinese Language and Culture Education of HQU, launched the Chinese Cultural Cloud Workshop with the help of network platforms. Up to now, they have held three phases with 21 courses, including calligraphy, paper cutting, sinology, recitation, and stick figure drawing. More than 4,000 overseas Chinese teenagers from five countries, including Germany, Portugal, Australia, Italy and France, participated in the training, with a total class time of 578 hours.
