On June 21^st, Huaqiao University (HQU) issued the Notice on the Establishment of School of Future Technology of HQU, which officially kicked off the School's construction.

In May 2020, the Ministry of Education issued the Guideline to Establish Schools for Future Technologies (Tentative) and decided to build a number of schools for future technologies in higher education institutions. The establishment of the School is the first of its kind in China after the publication of the Guideline, and is a major measure taken by HQU to adhere to the strategy of "developing an excellent university for overseas Chinese" and to promote the innovation of system and mechanism and the construction of high-level university.

The School plans to forge a team of high-level teachers with significant influence in the advanced interdisciplinary studies and future technologies who will deliver a number of original achievements, build several science and education platforms and digital resources in order to meet the demand of future technology research, to form a batch of representative system and mechanism examples, and to establish a teaching and research highland that can lead the future technology development and nurture interdisciplinary and innovative talents. 

The establishment of the School will promote the further deepening, expansion, breakthrough, and new beginning of HQU's new engineering disciplines, comprehensively drive the transformation and upgrading of majors, and improve the quality of personnel training and social service ability. It is of great significance for HQU to better serve the national key strategies, the work of the united front and overseas Chinese affairs, and the local economic and social development, to improve the quality of personnel training and overall level of running the school, and to accelerate the construction of a distinctive high-level university at home and abroad.

The pilot program comes amid China's efforts to focus on the needs of revolutionary technical talents in the future, and tries to break the norms, constraints and barriers while strengthening reform, innovation and guidance. By providing high-quality resources, creating a good innovation atmosphere, and improving the system and mechanism, these schools will strive to cultivate forward-looking leaders in technology innovation, so as to upgrade from "made in China" to "innovated in China" and to lay the foundation for building a powerful country in higher education, serving high-quality economic development and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
