Release time:2020-06-22      Author:Wu Jianghui from Media Center

On the afternoon of June 21st, more than 20 representatives of foreign government officials from different countries sang online a Chinese song Friend to express their deep friendship and reluctance to part.

This is a touching scene during the online graduation ceremony of the 15th Foreign Government Officials' Chinese Class of Huaqiao University (HQU).

From seven foreign governments --- Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Saudi Arabia and Oman, 109 officials working in National Police Administration, Ministry of Defense, Chancellery, Immigration Bureau and other departments, successfully completed their one-year study in HQU.

Affected by COVID-19, HQU held the ceremonies both online and offline. One student at school attended the ceremony on the spot, while 108 students in different countries attended the virtual graduation through live streaming. President Xu Xipeng issued Graduation Certificates to student representatives

Over the past year, HQU has been offering courses in Chinese listening, speaking, and reading for foreign government officials. In addition, it also provides various cultural courses and lectures on Chinese traditional music, dance, Wushu (martial arts), painting, and folk artifact art, etc., and holds visits to Jinjiang enterprises in Fujian, Yunnan Police Officer Academy, Xi'an Jiaotong University and other places where students experience Chinese culture and understand the development of modern China. During the outbreak, the class shifted to online teaching, ensuring "learning undisrupted when offline classes are disrupted".

The Foreign Government Officials' Chinese Class is a platform for Chinese cultural transmission and a brand of international exchange and cooperation built by HQU based on its mission and advantages. Since its inception 15 years ago, the class has trained 1,045 personnel of the Chinese language for 12 countries, including Thailand, Laos, the Philippines, and Cambodia, making active contributions to the cultural exchanges between China and other countries and helping to lay a solid foundation of public opinion for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) construction.

President Xu Xipeng issues Graduation Certificates to the graduate representatives (one of them is currently a master’s candidate in HQU who graduated from the Foreign Government Officials’ Chinese Class earlier than this year).

Foreign representatives make speeches online.
