Recently, hosted by Huaqiao University (HQU) and co-sponsored by Tsinghua University, Waseda University, Chongqing University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Huaqiao University and Tunghai University, the 2020 International Graduate Joint Design Studio Achievement Report Meeting was held.

This year's joint design studio was scheduled to be hosted by Waseda University and co-taught in Tokyo. However, the epidemic comes with major adjustments. It is hosted, instead, by HQU and the base is located in Jimei Dashe, Xiamen, China. Jimei Dashe is the hometown of Tan Kah Kee, a patriotic overseas Chinese, and has important historical and cultural value and urban renewal research value. Therefore, this year's theme is “Optimization and Promotion—Protection and Renewal of Urban Design in Jimei Dashe”.

Due to the special circumstances of this year, all research programs in each university can not be carried out. Based on the academic accumulation in Xiamen’s historical building protection and urban renewal research over the years and existing research data of Jimei Dashe, the School of Architecture of HQU offers support for courses after contacting with Xiamen Overseas Chinese Museum, Xiamen Urban Planning & Design Institute and others. In the process of joint teaching, teachers and students from different schools overcame many difficulties and made use of various network data to make up for the deficiencies caused by the lack of investigation. They also organized ten sessions of joint video teaching and nine sessions of lectures on special topics, thus ensuring the smooth advancement of teaching.

The joint design teaching of graduates among six universities has been continuously carried out for many years. HQU joined in 2016, and has carried out design projects with different contents and forms, such as Campus-village Integration Theme and Macau Urban Renewal Theme. The 2020 joint teaching studio was attended by Liu Gong, Vice President of HQU, Chen Zhihong, Dean of the School of Architecture, and faculty advisors Zheng Zhi and Yao Minfeng, professor and associate professor respectively of the School of Architecture.
