Zheng Yi and Liu Hengyi, the men's basketball players of Huaqiao University (HQU), are ranked among the new rosters for 3x3 training camp released by the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
According to the announcement on the CBA's official website, from May 21st, both men's and women’s 3x3 training camps will have the next phase of training in Shanghai, preparing for important events as Tokyo Olympic Games, Asia Cup and U23 World Cup.
Both China's men's and women's 3x3 basketball national teams have previously earned a berth into the Olympic Games, which means that Zheng Yi and Liu Hengyi may represent China at Tokyo 2020.
Zheng Yi and Liu Hengyi are both the graduates of 2021 from the College of Physical Education and men's basketball players of HQU. They have participated in the Chinese University Basketball Association (CUBA) 5 times, and crowned the champion at 3x3 FISU World University League – 2018 Finals on behalf of HQU.
Zheng Yi was selected to CBA 3x3 training camp in May, 2018, and has represented China in the FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup 2018, FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2019, and FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2019. Liu Hengyi was selected in March, 2019 for the training camp, and took part in FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2019 and FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2019.
In FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2019, the Chinese team with Zheng Yi and Liu Hengyi won the bronze medal, achieving a great breakthrough in this event. Zheng Yi was awarded one of the Men’s Most Valuable Players.
Zheng Yi is now ranked 1st in China and 69th in the FIBA 3x3 Individual World Ranking, while Liu Hengyi is ranked 5th in China and 92nd in the world.
