Recently, the results of the 2020 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) have been released. After fierce competitions, nine teams from Huaqiao University (HQU) won 9 awards, including two Finalist (Nomination for Outstanding Winners) Awards, two Meritorious Winner (First Prize) Awards and five Honorable Mentions (Second Prize) Awards.

What was particularly remarkable was that the team formed by He Wenlong, Xu Shuwei and Yang Lvlin from the School of Mathematical Sciences, and the team formed by Huang Chenggui, Li Wenqiang and Bai Jing from the College of Computer Science and Technology, won Finalist Awards of ICM, which set a new record in HQU history.

In addition, the team formed by Yang Zhengxi, Chen Mo and Shi Xu from the School of Mathematical Sciences, won Meritorious Winner Award of MCM, and the team formed by Zhang Shiyu, Pan Zhiting and Huang Yanyu won Meritorious Winner Award of ICM. Five other teams of HQU won Honorable Mention Awards of MCM/ICM.

MCM/ICM is the only internationally renowned mathematical modeling contest, as well as the most influential one in the world. According to the statistics, only 2% out of all Chinese participants in this year’s contest won Finalist Awards, and 6.8% Meritorious Winner Awards.
