Commemorating martyrs and national spirit on the Tomb-Sweeping Day.

At 7:00 am on April 4th, national flags were lowered to half-mast in Huaqiao University (HQU) respectively on Quanzhou campus, Xiamen campus and Chinese Language and Culture College of HQU to express the deep condolences of the faculty and students to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the fight against the COVID-19 and compatriots who succumbed to the outbreak. Along with the national anthem, the national flag rose to the top of the flagpole, then slowly descended to one third of the flagpole. All the faculty and students present observed three minutes of silence to mourn for the deceased.

According to the Law of the People's Republic of China on the National Flag, "The National Flag, when flown at half-staff, shall be first hoisted to the peak of the staff and then lowered to a point where the distance between the top of the Flag and the peak of the staff is one third of the length of the staff. And the Flag, when lowered, shall again be hoisted to the peak before it is lowered."
