Recently, the awarding ceremony of the 2019 Cross-Strait Youth Network Audiovisual Works Competition Plan was held in Xiamen. The micro film, The Cocoon, created by students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan from School of Journalism & Communication of Huaqiao University (HQU) (Author: Li Youxu, Liu Yanlin, Pan Shiwei, Lv Peiming and Zhang Weiting. Tutor: Guo Yanmei, Huang Zhihao, Zhang Yueming and Zhong Li.), won the Best Short Film Award in the Youth Unit.
The film tells the virtual life of college students living in the Internet world from a unique perspective. After a series of competitions and virtual challenges in the game world, the protagonist finally steps into the real life, turning a cocoon into a butterfly. It indicates the contemporary college students’ thinking on new issues through reflecting on the benefits and morbid lifestyles new technology brings to young people. The work is a great breakthrough in the field of film and television creation by students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and overseas Chinese students from School of Journalism & Communication.
