HQU Students Win Prizes in the 11th Chinese Mathematics Competitions (Fujian Station)

The 11th Chinese Mathematics Competitions (Fujian Station) was just wrapped up. Wang Mengshou, from the School of Mathematical Sciences, Huaqiao University (HQU), won the first prize in mathematics major group B. Wang was therefore shortlisted for the national finals. This is the first time for HQU's major group made it to the national finals.

 

In addition, students of the School of Mathematical Sciences participating in the mathematics major group B achieved 7 first prizes, 5 second prizes and 12 third prizes in total. 53 students, from the School of Economics and Finance, School of Statistics, College of Mechanical and Engineering Automation, College of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Information Science and Engineering, College of Computer Science and Technology, College of Civil Engineering, College of Chemical Engineering and Business School of HQU, won prizes in the non-mathematics major group with 13 first prizes, 15 second prizes and 25 third prizes respectively.

 

The Chinese Mathematics Competitions started in 2009, sponsored by the Chinese Mathematical Society. It is a national high-level subject competition for undergraduates. More than 2,000 students from 24 universities in Fujian Province participated this year, including 117 in the mathematics major group A, 769 in the mathematics major group B and 1,687 in the non-mathematics group. The award winning ratio is less than 35%.
