Jointly hosted by the Senate of Thailand and the Confucius Institute at Kasetsart University, the Chinese Training Workshop for Senators of Thailand held the opening ceremony at the Secretariat of the Senate on November 13th.
The textbook for the workshop is compiled by both the Confucius Institute at Kasetsart University and the Secretariat of the Senate. This workshop will provide its members with Chinese language training and help them master the Chinese expressions available during their interactions with senior Chinese officials, regarding greetings, reception, introduction of Thai customs, politics, and economy. In addition, it will organize activities about Chinese culture and art such as Chinese songs, calligraphy, traditional Chinese medicine, etc.
46 people enroll in the workshop, among whom are Senators, former members of the National Legislative Assembly of Thailand, as well as experts from the Senate Committee. The main lecturer is Gao Huimin, an associate professor of Huaqiao University (HQU) and the Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at Kasetsart University.
Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, the President of the Senate of Thailand, and Lyu Jian, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Kingdom of Thailand, attended the ceremony and both delivered a speech. Lyu Jian later presented the Senate with Chinese books, including Keywords to Understand China.
