HQU Emerges Second Runner-up in 2019 FISU University World Cup - 3x3

2019 FISU University World Cup - 3x3 reached its conclusion on the evening of November 3rd after 4-day heated competition. Universidade Paulista of Brazil men's team and Tsinghua University of China women's team won the championship, with Universidad de Chile men's team and University of Vienna of Austria women's team finishing second, and Huaqiao University of China men's team and Islamic Azad University of Iran women's team finishing third.

   

Zhang Yi from Peking University of China took the title in the women's shootout contest, while Eromon Uadiale from Macquarie University of Australia was crowned the winner in the men's slam-dunk contest. 

   

As the host of this event, Huaqiao University men’s team lost to Universidade Paulista in the semi-final by two points, and won the third place over Mongolia Sports University.

   

Among the guests attending the closing ceremony were Martin Doulton, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Executive Committee Member and President of FISU Oceania, Xu Xipeng, President of Huaqiao University (HQU), Robert, President of FISU Technical Committee, Ye Wenling, Member of FISU Medical Committee, Wu Jihuai, Vice President of HQU, and Wu Chengye, former President of HQU. They presented awards to the winning teams and athletes. Peng Pei, Vice President of HQU, presided over the ceremony.

   

Xu and Doulton delivered a speech respectively and expressed their gratitude to the host, organizer, co-organizers and sponsors and to referees, athletes, staff, volunteers and friends from the press for their contributions to the event.

      

2019 FISU University World Cup - 3x3 was held on Xiamen campus, of Huaqiao University from October 31st to November 3rd. The event was sponsored by FISU, and co-organized by the Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) and HQU. 32 basketball teams representing 20 countries and regions from across 5 continents competed for the championship.
