2019 FISU University World Cup - 3x3 Kicks Off at HQU

The 2019 FISU University World Cup - 3x3 kicked off at Xiamen campus of Huaqiao University (HQU) on the afternoon of October 31st. There will be a 4-day fierce competition for the annual championship among the 32 basketball teams representing 20 countries and regions from across the 5 continents.

 

The current event is sponsored by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), and co-organized by the Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) and HQU. HQU has been hosting the 3x3 FISU World University League Finals for four consecutive years since 2015. To be bettered geared to the international competition system, it is renamed "FISU University World Cup - 3x3" this year.

 

Prior to the event, 16 men's teams and 16 women's have been through qualifying rounds held in five continents to earn their place in the finals. Four competitive teams of Chinese University Basketball Association (CUBA) men’s and women's basketball teams will also participate in the event, including two men’s basketball teams of HQU and Civil Aviation University of China (CAUC), and two women's basketball teams of Tsinghua University (THU) and Peking University (PKU). This will be a competition for top 3x3 basketball players from universities at home and abroad.

 

Among the guests attending the opening ceremony were Martin Doulton, FISU Executive Committee Member and President of FISU Oceania, Guo Guirong, Vice Mayor of Xiamen Municipal People's Government, Xu Xipeng, President of HQU, Xue Yanqing, Vice President and Secretary-General of FUSC, and Mengke Bateer, famous basketball player and President of Inner Mongolia Basketball Association.

 

After Xu Xipeng and Martin Doulton gave their opening addresses, Guo Guirong declared the opening of the games, and Wu Jihuai, Vice President of HQU, presided over the opening ceremony.

 

In the four-day competition, there will be pool matches, quarterfinals, semifinals, finals, shootout contest and slam-dunk contest. The closing ceremony as well as award ceremony is scheduled on the afternoon of November 3rd.

 

CCTV 5+ will provide the live broadcast of the finals and the 3rd-place playoffs, and Fujian TV8, FISU network platform and JSPORTS will broadcast the whole competition. FISU will rebroadcast it on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and its official platform.
