Recently, the Fifth Fujian Honorary Citizenship Ceremony (2019) was held in Fuzhou. Tang Dengjie, governor of Fujian Province, presented the award to Prof. Philipp Kapranov from School of Medicine & School of Biomedical Sciences, Huaqiao University (HQU). This is the first time that HQU has received the honor.
Honorary Citizenship, the highest honor of Fujian Province awarded to foreign friends, has been presented for five times since its establishment in 1993.
Prof. Philipp Kapranov, distinguished professor of School of Medicine & School of Biomedical Sciences of HQU, director of the Institute of Genomics and doctoral supervisor, has long been engaged in systems biology and genomics research and is one of the first to put forward the concept of pervasive transcription of human genome. He became a full-time professor at HQU in July 2014, and was selected as a distinguished expert of Fujian Hundred Talents Program and a leading talent in colleges and universities of Fujian Province. He was also conferred the Xiamen City: Egret Friendship Award and Chinese Government Friendship Award.
