The 13th campus performance of HQU 24 Festive Drums was held in Tan Kah Kee Auditorium HQU on the evening of May 26th, 2018.
The year of 2018 is coincided with the 30th anniversary of Global 24 Festive Drums. With a theme of Independent at 30, HQU 24 Festive Drums Team, Xiamen Zhuba School 24 Festive Drums Team, Orang Orang Drum Theatre (Malaysia), JB Drum Percussion Group (Malaysia) and Foon Yew High School 24 Festive Drums (Malaysia) performed together to celebrate the 30th Anniversary.
Mr. Tan Chai Puan, the founder of 24 Festive Drums, beat the drum first to start the performance. "Independent at 30 represents a sense of responsibility and commitment. The past thirty years witnessed increasingly mature performances of 24 Festive Drums." Tan added, "From its founding, we have taken a firm stance and will keep rising to new heights."
"Since it is the 30th anniversary, we are so proud to participate in this performance." Lee Weijie, the team leader of Malaysia 24 Festive Drums (HQU) and a second-year student at College of Physical Education, was satisfied with today’s performance. He said, "The 24 Festive Drums not only passes down traditional Chinese culture, but has significant meaning for Overseas Chinese as well. We will spare no effort to disseminate the culture and spirit of the Festive Drums."
HQU 24 Festive Drums Team was founded 21 years ago and has participated in over 100 performances at home and abroad. At the very beginning, the team was mainly consisted of Malaysian students, but now it has evolved into a team of over 300 students from both Xiamen and Quanzhou Campuses. In this April, team members joined their field work, named Hundred Villages, Thousands Visit, to the villages of Fujian province where they presented Drum Performance for the locals.
