On the morning of Apr 30, Huaqiao University (HQU) hosted the “CSIG Experts Campus” symposium, a marquee event of the broader “CSIG Image and Graphics China Tour-HQU Edition.” Organized by the Chinese Society of Image and Graphics (CSIG) and held in the Zhuang Weixuan Auditorium of HQU, the event convened over one hundred top experts in image and graphics, and multimodal intelligence from across the country to discuss cutting-edge academic challenges and share insights on technological advancements, showcasing a high-level academic feast for HQU faculty, students and the science and technology professionals in Quanzhou.
At the opening ceremony, Huang Hui, Vice President of HQU, stated that image graphics and artificial intelligence (AI) are core supporting technologies in the era of digital economy, demonstrating strong potential in both academic and industrial application. HQU has always attached great importance to the development of relevant disciplines and talent cultivation, delving deeply into fields such as AI and the Internet of Things (IoT), and actively champions scientific innovation and regional industry-academia partnerships. The event has provided an important platform for HQU to gain access to the top-tier academic resources and exchange cutting-edge technological achievements. The university expects to take the event as a catalyst to strengthen collaboration with the society and visiting experts, thereby elevating the university’s academic programs, injecting new momentum into regional scientific and technological advancements.
Yang Xiaoshan, Deputy Secretary-General of CSIG Technical Committee on Multimedia, pointed out that as an authoritative academic organization in the field of image and graphics in China, the CSIG has always been committed to promoting disciplinary development, fostering academic exchanges, and cultivating top talents. The “Image and Graphics China Tour” is a key initiative by the Society to support academia, empower industry, and promote frontier technologies. He expressed the hope that this event would serve as a bridge connecting experts with faculty and students, universities with industries, to share cutting-edge academic achievements, spark scientific innovation, promote the practical application of image and graphics techniques in Quanzhou, thereby contributing to the high-quality development of digital economy.
During the keynote session, four distinguished experts delivered presentations on their latest research findings and application practices in core areas such as multimodal large models, edge intelligent perception, general-purpose intelligent frameworks, and visual fusion. The experts included: Xu Changsheng, Research Professor from the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and leading talent under the National Ten Thousand Talents Program; Liang Ronghua, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, and leading talent in scientific and technological innovation under the National Ten Thousand Talents Program; Han Jungong, Tenured Professor at Tsinghua University and Changjiang Chair Professor of the Ministry of Education; and Wu Xiaojun, Dean of the Research Institute of Jiangnan University, Second-Level Professor, Fellow of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), and Academician of the U.S. National Academy of Artificial Intelligence (NAAI).
The conference was organized by CSIG Technical Committee on Multimedia, College of Engineering of HQU, Quanzhou Digital Research Institute, Quanzhou Association for Science and Technology, the HQU Association for Science and Technology, and co-organized by the HQU AI Fengze Base at Quanzhou, and the School of IoT Industry. Representatives from the Institute of Automation of the CAS, Quanzhou Association for Science and Technology, along with faculty and students from the College of Engineering of HQU attended the event.
