On December 16, the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Chinese Language and Culture Education Alliance was established and the first Silk Road Seminar on Chinese Language and Culture Education was held in Huaqiao University (HQU) Xiamen Campus. More than 80 people attended the seminar, including the leaders from Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Fujian Province, the Education Department of Fujian Province, Fujian Province Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Xiamen Municipal Committee, overseas Chinese language and culture schools, Chinese language and culture education organizations, and some relevant schools in Fujian province.

In order to promote the high-quality development of Chinese language and culture education in the B&R countries, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Fujian Province, the Education Department of Fujian Province, Fujian Province Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, China Vocational Education Association of Fujian Province, and HQU jointly initiated the establishment of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Chinese Language and Culture Education Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the Silk Road Chinese Language and Culture Education Alliance), whose first batch of members come from 56 units including overseas Chinese language and culture education base schools in Fujian province as well as the Chinese language and culture schools and Chinese language and culture education organizations in the B&R countries.

On the same day, the seminar guests jointly unveiled the Silk Road Chinese Language and Culture Education Alliance and issued the initiative of the Alliance, calling on the Chinese language educators at home and abroad to inherit “fu (blessings)” culture and play a new role in the Silk Road Chinese Language and Culture Education, to build a new platform to promote new achievement of Silk Road Chinese Language and Culture Education, and to play a new power to explore the new approach of the Silk Road Chinese Language and Culture Education.

At the seminar, China Vocational Education Association of Fujian Province signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on “Chinese Language and Culture Education + Vocational Education” with Philippine Chinese Education Research Center. Fujian Preschool Education College signed an inter-school cooperation agreement on Chinese language and culture education with more than ten members of Silk Road Chinese Language and Culture Education Alliance, such as Puhua Indonesian Trilingual School.

At the first Silk Road Seminar on Chinese Language and Culture Education held over the same period, Liu Li, former President of Beijing Language and Culture University, Jia Yimin, former President of HQU, and Zhang Yanli, Dean of the School of Chinese Studies and Exchange of Shanghai International Studies University, delivered keynote speeches. The participants held panel discussions on “The Task, Mission and Responsibility of Chinese Language and Culture Education in Serving the Belt and Road Initiative”.
