Overseas Chinese Language Teachers from 26 Countries Gather at HQU

The 2023 Workshop for Overseas Chinese Language teachers, organized by Huaqiao University (HQU) and hosted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, opened at HQU Xiamen Campus on the morning of December 14.


The 14-day workshop, with the theme of “Inheritance, Innovation and Sharing”, attracts 87 overseas Chinese language teachers from 26 countries around the world, including Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Panama, Cuba, Belgium, Russia, Hungary, Germany, Mauritius, etc.. During the training, 23 experts and scholars from HQU and other universities will be invited to conduct in-depth discussions on the theory and practice of Chinese language education.The training also includes diverse experiential courses, cultural study tours, and thematic discussions, providing an excellent platform for overseas Chinese language teachers to exchange ideas, deepen their understanding, and enhance friendship, cooperation and mutual learning.


Lin Hongyu, the Vice President of HQU, attends and addresses the opening ceremony. He mentions that Chinese language and culture education is the “Hope Project”, “Root Project”, and “Pro-people Project” overseas. He believes that inheritance is the foundation of Chinese language and culture education, while innovation is the soul, and sharing is the future. Lin hopes that overseas Chinese language teachers from all over the world will take this workshop as an opportunity to learn from each other and improve their professionalism and teaching skills. He urges them to adhere to the mission and responsibility of “propagating the doctrine, imparting professional knowledge, and resolving doubts”, so as to jointly promote the progress and development of overseas Chinese language and culture education. He emphasizes the importance of better inheriting and carrying forward Chinese culture and promoting cultural exchanges between China and other countries.


Wang Yingliang, a trainee from Huaxia Chinese Culture School in Australia, expresses her happiness in participating in the seminar. She says, “I am delighted to have the opportunity to meet excellent overseas Chinese language teachers from different countries around the world. We can learn and exchange working methods and educational experience together, and experience the charm of excellent traditional Chinese culture. I am gratitude to HQU who is nurturing overseas Chinese language teachers like a mother.” She looks forward to the next few days of the learning trip, and is enthusiastic about guiding language teaching with culture, cultivating love with love, and constantly enriching and strengthening herself.


Zhao Li, a trainee from the Sino-German Experimental School in Hungary, has participated in online workshops hosted by HQU multiple times. On this visit to HQU, she is impressed by the thoughtful staff making her feel at home. Zhao Li commends the seminar for its rich content and professional teachers. She believes that overseas Chinese language teachers who gather to research and study at HQU will carry forward the Chinese language and culture all over the world upon their return.
